Fur Rondy!

Only in Alaska can you gather your family, stuff yourselves in warm clothes, wander around downtown in a big beautiful new building and....look at stuffed and mounted wild animals.

It's Fur Rondy time in Anchorage again and the Senecas went out on the town this weekend to experience some fun stuff.

The Safari Club held their annual auction last night so we and the Parrents headed out for some free entertainment for the whole bunch. After searching for parking spots downtown on a Friday night we were on the hunt (ha ha. I am so witty) for some, as Claire calls them, "aminals".

Any single girls out there reading this? Ahem. The Safari Club Auction/Dinner is where you need to be if you're on the hunt (the wittiness is astounding, isn't it?) for a boyfriiiiiiend. This place was chock full of cammo-wearin, gun-slingin, capable of tire-changin, beefcake boys. And if they are making enough money to bid on thousands of dollars African hunts, then you need to go ahead and get you some of that.

As for me, what got me going was watching my baby and her Daddy walk around and look at all the cool junk. And kissy face in front of the gun racks.

Bubs and Brayden found a leopard and were doing their best impersonation.

There were some pretty animals....

....and some not so pretty ones.

These were just a little weird.
All I could do was nervously laugh....they made me sad and grossed out at the same time.
All I could think of was Babar. The punks love those books.

The boys were just happy to be together!

And shared the love with Sissy. :)

We got to meet Miss Codey Cogdell, the USA's bronze medalist in the 2008 games. She is a champion trapshooter and just sweet as can be. The boys were thrilled to meet her and have her sign a picture.

Bubs: "Mommy. I needa see that Limpkick medal".

They even got to wear her medals. The highlight of the evening was witnessing Colin meet her and get all nervous and sweaty palmed. He was in looooooove. I had to gently nudge him, point to our 2 children and remind him he was coming home with us. Ha!

This morning the boys took off to the office to get some work done. It is very necessary to have both briefcases. In Colin's: papers, files, laptop, sweat, blood, tears....In Trent's: Gogurt, "Up", Lightning McQueen cars, and 3 quarters. He's well on his way, my friends.

Check out what was in our neighbor's yard this morning. They're everywhere!

The guys had a big day of working, going to lunch with Colin's co-worker, getting haircuts and going to the gun shop. Claire and I spent some quality time together too....making a lemon pie, folding laundry and rubbing each other's backs on the couch. I love my alone time with each punk when I can get it!

This evening we headed downtown to the Fur Rondy Carnival. Look at what freaks we Alaskans are!
We're willing to ride the ferris wheel when it's 14 degrees outside. Freaks.

Colin led the way....

....and was stopped dead in his tracks when Sissy spied the cotton candy.

Inner Monologue: "Oh my...I can't breathe. I need it. I want it. What is it? I don't care. It's pink, it's sweet, I have to have it".

Group shot! Rosy cheeked and hoooooooooongry......

....for a tailgating party! What a way to end the night - smoked salmon and sandwiches...

...and beautiful fireworks. Isn't it pretty? Oh, and cold. Real cold.

But there's pie! A handsome Daddy eating pie! Yay!

And hot chocolate to warm up with.

The grand finale of fireworks. Claire's only comment? "At's SO LOOOOOUD".

Happy Fur Rondy! PETA soooooo could not hang.

A New Woman!

Oh. My. Lord. Good Heavens Above! The sweet, sweet relief of FINALLY having a beautiful piece of obsessive-picture-taking machinery in my paws is MINE!! Alllllll MINE! The Glory! YAHOOOOOOO!!!!!

Okay. I had to get that out before we continue. I think I also need to point out a few things I've learned this past week that I've been away from my dear readership.....

1. A lot can happen in a week, especially when you don't blog about it.
2. My husband really, really, really likes me.
3. As predicted by my lovely oldest sister, my children think they live with the paparazzi.
4. I'm wondering how I ever lived day to day without my fancy new Nikon camera!!

My incredible beefcake of a studly husband gave me my early Birthday present last weekend....and I love it! I've been wanting a heavy duty camera for the longest time and he surprised me with a trip to Costco so I could pick it out and caress it in my excited, clammy hands and snuggle with it in the car on the way home. Yay!

And look at what it does! Look at how beautiful my family is!

And check out my suuuuuper artistic photography skills. Bubs was none too pleased that I was cutting into his banana-eating time.

But don't worry. My new camera hasn't consumed all of our lives. We still made time for the important things in life, like being chased by the "Blanket Monster"...

....and getting revenge when he least expected it.

Claire helped me strip all the sheets off the beds one day and rewarded herself with a little movie in our bed.

Kate and Dwight stopped by for a quick visit...

...and after I got my stupid car stuck in a stupid snow berm in the stupid front yard (I don't wanna talk about it), we put on a puppet show. That's what being house-bound will do to ya.
I personally love how Bubs insisted on calling it "The Unglow Puppet Show". Unglow?? Weirdo.

And for the one day we had sunshine and beautiful mild weather, we headed out to the driveway to draw with chalk. Look at this beefcake. I could eat him!

Claire got in on the action too and even gave me the prettiest (and fakest) smile. Awwww, Sissy! Stinker.

"Woo Hoo! Sunshine!! We can't handle it! Let's JUUUUUUUUMP!".

We Skyped with PapaGa and snacked on heart-shaped lollies. Before dinner. On the laundry room floor. Don't judge.

And these beautiful punks found things to keep them busy while their Dad and I huddled in a corner and held each other in an attempt to fit in 3 sentences each without being interrupted. 5:30 pm at my house is an ugly scene, my friends.

This afternoon, AFTER IT PROCEEDED TO SNOW ABOUT 75,000 FEET (Bitter? I'm not bitter!), Claire thought she should oversee her Daddy's snow removal job. Good work Claire Bear!

And Mommy got to have some fun too!
Last weekend Lauren, Lindsay, and Lindsay's sister Ashley and I went downtown to see "Late Nite Catechism". It was hiiiiiilarious and so fun to get together with my girls.
Here is the stage before it started:

Afterward we stopped by Sullivan's for 1/2 priced appetizers. Holla!

Of course I had to let the kids get in on the Anchorage cuisine...we headed to the mall for an Auntie Anne pretzel....

....and a lemonade which they happily shared.....

We hauled out the bikes one day while the sun shined...we got kinda cocky with the nice weather but could only got 4 ft. at the top of the driveway. Boo.

After the bike disappointment, I decided to give Bubs a little prize I had scored at Sears a few days before. This bad boy retailed for $50.00...they had a major sale and I snagged it for $12.00! Totally worth it to see this look on my chunker's face.
Pure Joy.

"Mommy. I'm so happy you got this for me. I rearry, rearry like this track, Mommy!".

It's all put together, yay! Let's do it!

Not only was Bubs the Master Track Racer but he also took on the role of Referee when his little sister got wind of the fun. I seriously did not see this kid for 3 days after this thing was put together. Best 12 bucks I ever spent!

Whew. That was a looooong post. I feel your pain, Claire.

Welcome Home Daddy!

Yay! Our one and only, most favorite, best lookin', luggage totin', kiss given', story tellin' hubby/Daddy is back in action! We sure missed him but I know for a fact the kids were okay with having the remote all to themselves and only doing a quarter of the usual laundry and reading in the bed with the lamp on for as long as they want.
What?
Did I say kids?
I meant me....but all of those little marriage luxuries don't even come close to having my big lug back in my flabby arms.

I had two VERY excited punks on my hands as we were heading out to the airport last night.

We couldn't wait to hear all about what he'd been up to on his trip to NY.

Like preparing his delicious brown sugar glazed salmon...

...and cooking up some crab legs....

...decorating cookies with his cousin MJ....

....having family dinners with loved ones...

.....and most importantly...PIE!

Okay, not really. Pie's not the most important. These two are!
Hi Grandpa, Hi Grandma!

Colin says he did more than just eat the whole time (uh huh) but his camera is at the office and I run a very tight ship, people! I'm on a deadline! I have fans that demand pictures!

Do you believe me?
Are you still reading this nonsense I post every day?
Well? Helllooooo....

Our little animals were very excited for one thing only. Getting loot!

"What you got for us, Daddy?".

A pretty blanket from Grandma! Thanks, Grandma!

Bubs got one too! He really loves his new blanket...last night he asked if it would be okay to kick off his other blankets and "just sleep with this new blue one with the dragons on it??".

"OOh, Daddy! Ooh! Pick me! Pick me!".

"New HESS trucks Mommy!!".

Last summer, Bubs was really into catching bugs in his bug catcher and inspecting them with his "magazine glass". After a few months of hardcore bug hunting, his little plastic catcher was kaput.
Colin found a nice wooden bug catcher for him in Amish country! He was so excited. Now, if it was only summer....

What could have Claire so excited, you ask? Why is she squealing with her eyes shut?

Her very own itty bitty American Girl doll! It's Molly!

"Oh! Thank you, Daddy! Thank you!".

Bubs: "Daddy. Um, maybe tomorrows when you gets up, we can put together the HESS trucks and then you don't hafta go to work and we can just play with the trucks and my new cars I gots cause I really missed you and I needa get those trucks."

Colin: "I have to go to work tomorrow, buddy".

Bubs: "Oh. Can Mommy put the trucks together?".

"I love habbin my Daddy heres!".

Look what I got! Colin's Aunt Maryann painted this beautiful picture of all these little gingerbread men and had a print made. His Uncle Tom framed and matted it and it's all mine! I love it, I know just where it's going to go. Awesome!

Colin hauled a bunch of his Grandpa's bullet loading gear home. Look how happy he is! I love this picture. His beak is working overtime.

And look what else he hauled home. Beautiful Polish pottery and my favorite hot mustard from NY!
Thank you, Grandma!!

Last night was a whirlwind of kisses, hugs, the kids talking over each other, gift bags, wrappings, sweat, tears, snot....oh wait. No. The sweat, tears and snot were all going on today.

Probably because.....Bubs stuck the tip of a crayon up his nose and it got stuck. I would laugh and point my finger and call him "Snot Face" if I didn't, myself, have an unfortunate episode with a green crayon tip in my youth.

I understand, Bubs. The temptation is too much. You just HAVE to stick it up there, I know. It's okay.

The aftermath of 15 minutes of blowing his guts out, crying that "it's still up there, Mommy!!!", panicking when it wouldn't come out and then apologizing for being SURE the wayward crayon tip was up the right nostril when it was really up the left one.

"Ooohhhh, sorry. Can I watch cartoons now?".

That is a LARGE crayon tip, my peeps. Let's take a closer look, shall we?

Poor Bubs. And now to quote my wonderful husband,
"That'll learn 'im".

While watching the Olympics this afternoon, I was explaining to the kids what there were winter and summer Olympics and that I really liked to watch the swimming. "Swimming" was all these punks needed to hear before they yanked on their self-described "Texas clothes".

Get yer mits off my delicious Bison dip, flown all the way from Upstate New York...punks.

It's nice being our complete family of 4 again and having our Main Man back in the house.
But I'm sure going to miss my bed buddy.

* A special thanks to Colin's cousin Julia for all the great NY photos....if you are interested in any of the pictures, she will forfeit reproduction rights and receive payment in the form of crab legs or a teaching job. :)
