A Seneca Celebration!

March is a super fun celebratory time at the Seneca house....especially toward the end of the month. Lucky us, we have our birthdays 2 years and 2 days apart! We had a wonderful birthday weekend and made lots of memories with the punks and our buds.

But first...planning birthday extravaganzas take a lot of prep work. So earlier this week, we made master plans of playing with friends. And LaQueen cars on the Bubs' bed.

We worked really hard on clearing out the basement of furniture, toys, books and pillows and blankets in anticipation of our remodeling plans. Claire found some time to fake sleep on the mountain of blankets just as soon as Mommy Dearest requested all dirty clothes go in the hamper.

Me: "Claire....Claire! Claire??".
Claire: "Imma SLEEPIN!".

Faker.

This picture is for Papa!

Now, Dad. Feel free to critique their Oreo eating skills.
I think Bubs has it down pretty well.

Claire may need some coaching.

Last week, we spent some time with our buddies at play group!

Regan and her girls had a good time checkin out their new cousin, Beck.

And poor Claire had to ice her little noggin with snow after she took a spill on the plastic Princess chair. She got through it! She's tough. And I think the pink summer hat helped too.

Bubs came home and had a great time munching on an Otter Pop on the kitchen floor.
Can't you just eat him up??

And Sissy saved up all her smooches for Daddy when he came home from work.

Awwwwww.
Twinsies.

We even found some time to play outside. Searching for plastic shovels occupied most of our time.
Dedication, people!

See? Definition of Love for Mama: smiling through the searing sunshine. Glorious!

That night we went for a walk around the neighborhood. Bubs wore his "safety boots".
Colin: "Hey, bud. Why do you call them your safety boots?".
Bubs: "Cause when I gots em on, it's safe ta jump in da puddles".

What a good helper my little man is. He pushed her almost the whole time. Cuteness!

Friday was my Birfday! First thing in the morning, Bubs told me he had a present for me: my red pea coat that I've been storing in his closet. Ha! Passive aggressive? I like to think that maybe he thinks I just forgot about it. I DO love my red pea coat. Thanks, Bubs!

We went out to dinner at Ray's Place and I got beautiful flowers and lots of prizes.
Thanks for a wonderful birthday, everyone!

The next night we were feelin frisky so the boys grabbed KFC for dinner and we slummed it on the floor. Woo hoo for not having to do dinner dishes!

Yesterday was Colin's 27th birthday! My baby is all growed up.
He started off his birthday with cereal on the couch and a hunting show. Yes, there are hunting shows on at 8am on a Sunday morning.

Just a little knock knees and diaper load to start your day right. You're welcome.

The Birthday Boy took off for a morning at the shooting range and the kids and I decorated the house for his return. Actually, the kids drank milk and watched cartoons while I ran around like a crazy lady.

When he came home, he giggled! He loved his decorations. I aim to please...but I REALLY aim to get a Colin giggle.

I think it was his 6 shooter cupcakes that did it.

Or the fact that the house looked like an ADD/Turotte's-afflicted party planner exploded in his upstairs.

What?? It's not a party without balloon bouquets.

And felt garland made to look like bullets! He especially liked his garland.

The kids helped me pick out pictures of Daddy to print and decorate.

Okay, I picked out this one. It's my favorite! I'm thinking of framing it and putting it on my nightstand.

Can't forget his gun cake! I let Colin open one of his birthday prizes early (a DVD) so he would be occupied while I whipped up this bad boy in the next room.

Aren't I sneaky?

Kate and Dwight came over early on the party day and Bubs got in some quality Uncle White time. Uncle White is allowed back in the house...despite the fact that he switched around that blue "27" to read "72" and said, "Hey, Anne...I thought it was Colin's birthday...not yours".
Hmpf.
Oh, Dwight. I'll get you back. Don't you worry.
Older women are where it's at!

After a Pioneer Woman-inspired dinner, it was cake and presents time!

Happy Birthday! Claire picked out the hammer candle at the party store. Does she know her Dad or what?!

All the punks helped him blow out the candle. Thanks, punks!

Hi Lauren and Anthony!

Sweet grilling trays and meat thermometers! Thanks Mom and Dad! He is planning on grilled asparagus for our Easter brunch. The man does love a good grilling time.

Bubs asked me to wrap up one of his Lightning McQueen sweaters for Colin. Hilarious! He was so super proud to give it to him.

But the punks also pulled through with a new set of swim trunks.
Claire: "They for TEXAS!!".

Best gift ever: the more "manlier" version of the Biggest Loser workout DVD from Lauren and Anthony. But they didn't want to give him a complex so included was a giant chocolate bar. Hilarious!

SUUUUUUGAR SHOOOOOOOCK!

Thanks for the awesome shirt, Plastic Kara! He wore it to work today. :)

The Happy Birthday couple. He loooooves his older woman.

He even got a new shoulder strap/harness thingie for his gun. He's giving me sexy eyes. Inappropriate, Colin!

All the goils!

And all our buds! Thanks for coming and helping us celebrate Colin, you guys!

Claire loved sitting on top of Colin's shoulders. Although, she was holding on for dear life.

Let's take a closer look:

Poor Colin will be bald by his 28th birthday.

Happy Birthday Lover Boy!

The Best Brother Around

There's a lot of work that goes into being the first born in a family. The Senecas are no different.
Bubs has had to be our first baby guinea pig, the one right out of the gate to go wabbit huntin, sledding and learn how to dutifully follow Colin around and around and around Sportsman's Warehouse.

He's done his parents proud and takes great pride in showing Claire Bear the ropes. She fears nothing if she knows her brother is around!

Over the past couple of days, I've gotten some real good "teacher moments" caught on camera. Bubs is a wealth of Big Brother Knowledge and was happy to share his tidbits with his little sister. Let's take a trip down memory lane, shall we?

Here he is teaching her the proper way to smile big when kickin it with 3 boys. Popsicles and smelly boys? Yeah, she's tough.

We got a package from PapaGa in the mail.
Nobody shows the proper way to rip into a big ole package filled with treats, quite like Bubs.

It helps to explain what you're seeing and touching without actually letting your little sister get too close.

It's Lightning McQueen!

And Princesses!

"Sissy, here is the proper way to smile after you get a prize you really, really like".

Not bad, Claire. Not bad.

Auntie Kate stopped by and he demonstrated the most efficient way to get a piggyback ride.

The other day we went to Walmart and picked out sidewalk chalk, buckets to put it in and stickers to decorate them with. Claire picked out Tinkerbell and ballerina stickers and Bubs chose Cars and choo choo trains. They worked very diligently on their buckets and Bubs even brought out the....

BEEEAAAAAKKKKK!!!!

Claire tried to bring her Beak A Game but she has a lot to learn.

All done and oh so pretty, you delicious punks!

Let's get to chalkin.

Here's where I point out the pathetic parallel of Spring time (?) and digging in the snow with a pretty Easter-season purple shovel. Sigh.

But there's hope yet! We have puddles at the end of the driveway to dig around in....but there's not much Big Brother Wisdom to share in that......unless....unless....

...you're going to run and jump in them!

Go, Bubs, go!

Daddy's home! And looking as handsome as ever.

The next morning, Bubs went to work with Colin for a few hours....see, Sissy? This is how you look tough and oh so sweet and excited to be going to work with Daddy. Pure bliss for this punkalicious.

When they got home they decided to go wabbit hunting in the Valley.

"Daddy, looka. Dese are the sames at the ones you got".

"They are really super awesome cause they match. Can you help me get dis part on?".

"Thank you".

Bub's Teachable Moment #41 of the weekend: This is what COOL looks like.

But Sissy wasn't going to sit around and feel sorry for herself. She hopped right to it and helped me make turkey burgers for dinner. Mix it up Sissy! I think she may have learned her technique from Bubs' chocolate chip cookie baking skills.

Um.....he definitely didn't teach her how to dress.

Last night we began the arduous process of re-starting our home renovation projects....each of the kids got to help Colin rip off baseboard.

Nice job guys!

I reorganized all the linens downstairs, shifted some stuff in storage, hauled out boxes, stubbed my toe....cursed this house's name....and threw all the blankets and pillows and sleeping bags on the carpet.

Well. If you know the Senecas, then you know that is an open invitation to jump, jump, jump.

"One...two...thr....I can't do it. I'm scared Bubs".

"Oh, Sissy. Here's a hug. You can do it!".

"Now....JUMP!".

Bubs was extra worn out from their jumping but he was back on the job this morning....taking out Claire's ponytail.....

....and making sure she had enough syrup on her blueberry pancakes.

You may think Claire needs her space, a chance to grow as her own person, discover things on her own....but look! She loves it and she loves her Bubs. Here they are....on our way to church this morning, where Bubs later told me after we picked them up from the nursery, "Claire cried a lil bit for just a minute but I told her it was okays and then she played with the crayons".

See? The best big brother ever!
